God’s Gifts for Us:

God’s love, which causes him to lavish gifts upon us, so transcends us that no amount of good actions, pious thoughts, or holy words can every merit what he gives us. When we recognize and accept our unworthiness before God, we can then bask in the vastness of God’s love and gifts.

Church’s Law:

In today’s Gospel, Jesus’ parents obeyed the Law and brought baby Jesus to be consecrated to the Lord. Today, in the Sacraments of “Initiation” (i.e. of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Communion), instituted by Christ, we also “consecrate” ourselves to the Lord. Are we serious when we receive these Sacraments?

==================================================================

It is not our perfection which is to dazzle God, who is surrounded by myriads of angels. No, it is our misery, our wretchedness avowed which draws down his mercy.

- Blessed Columba Marion (1858-1923)
