Jesus’ Gift:
Jesus does not promise happiness. He proclaims the beatitudes.
Peter's Faith:
Peter the Apostle was "not perfect;" he denied Jesus. Yet, Jesus chose him to be the head of the Church. Jesus also does not expect us to love Him "perfectly." He only wants us to love Him and His people as sincerely and as much as we can. Love God more attentively and fervently.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Without inner renewal and without a commitment to overcome evil and sin in our hearts, and especially without love, man will never achieve inner peace. Such peace will be lasting only when it is rooted in the highest values, when it is based on moral norms and is open to God.
- Pope John Paul II
