Good Friday: ‘Out of His Anguish…Light’
Jesus suffered agonies I cannot imagine. Yet, out of his suffering, I am forgiven and receive eternal life. Isaiah tells us Jesus has found “satisfaction” in what he has done. He is happy to have saved me! Has there ever been such a love as this?
Passion of Christ:
In today’s Gospel, the Son of God was condemned by the crowd to whom He once performed miracles of healing, multiplied loaves and raised the dead. Are we tempted to condemn these Jews for their atrocities? Jesus did not condemn, but forgave them. How does Jesus want us to forgive?

Jesus of Nazareth, at the end of his earthly pilgrimage, had to become completely one with the Cross, joining himself to it, merging with it, in a single sign of salvation for the world.
- Pope John Paul II (Good Friday, 2003)
