God’s True Countenance:
Every stage of our spiritual journey reveals something more of God’s true countenance, and at this point we suddenly come face-to-face with the most astounding aspect of his tender love: we see that he is vulnerable. The cross lays bare the most hidden wounds of our nature, but it also lays bare the the human truth of God’s wound.

In the royal galley of divine Love, there is no galley slave: All rowers are volunteers.
- Saint Francis de Sales (1567-1622)
One concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, prayerless religion.
He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.
- Samuel Chadwick
